Meet The Artist Night

Kristine Huck’s Barn House Gallery has opened for its second season with a new meaning for area artists. Using her Rockport based gallery, Kristine is being a host by providing opportunity to show the art of local artists. This year the work of Cathy Vincent and Karen Bockus will be featured along with Kristine’s paintings. All three artists were available at a recently held “Meet the Artists Night" when art enthusiasts ambled through the gallery paintings and took a few moments to chat with the artists about their work and experiences.

Cathy Vincent’s watercolour scenes of the 1000 Islands were on display for the month of July and in August she will flip the display to florals. Cathy uses her love of water as inspiration. “I’ve been painting off and on all my life but more concentrated in the last five years” she says. “Since I stopped working I can finally spend time doing what I like”. Being rather new to showing her art, Cathy welcomes and appreciates Kristine’s invitation to share the Barn House Gallery space.

Karen Bockus of Lansdowne brought a number of her graphite drawings and paintings in oil and acrylic for display during the month of July. Coming from an artistic family Karen has been honing her skills since about 1990. Having some art focusing on Equine is not that unusual for Karen, owning three horses herself. “When I’m riding I get inspired to paint, all the paintings of my horses I have experienced firsthand” she says.”Whether by riding or seeing it firsthand, it’s about accuracy and lines, I strive for anatomatical correctness”.

Along with husband Ron, Karen owns The Three Horse Art Studio located on Highway #2 at Lansdowne and is the host for the Annual Three Horse Studio Art Show held on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. For 2009 there will be seven artists arranged within her large covered riding ring. Karen is pleased with the growth of this show, now being her third year it has attracted great artists and an appreciative following.

Kristine welcomes the opportunity to share her gallery space with Cathy and Karen as it is enjoyable to feel helpful to other local artists. The community and gallery visitors make it worthwhile as well, “the Meet the Artist Night was a wonderful social event and it would not have been as successful without their support”. Kristine enjoys seeing the different art and will present her “Colours of Autumn” this fall.

The Barn House Gallery is open four days a week, Thursday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
