About Me

I am always trying to think of new ways to vent my artistic abilities and expand on the subject material and mediums. This requires keeping up with the new along with studying the old. Inspiration can come from anywhere at anytime.

About The Silver Series

This series of Black and White paintings of days gone by came about quite by accident.

I was in the process of beginning a colour painting of a misty shoreline. Having just finished the grey mist for the background, I stood back and looked at it for a while. It was at that time that it struck me; the idea of creating a warm picture using just the cold colours of black, white and grey.

The result was a scene of a warm summer’s early evening with a lady picking flowers from her garden in the last of the day’s sunlight, circa 1900. I was so pleased with it that I decided then and there to start a series of black and white paintings of mostly rural scenes from a time when it seemed that time stood still.

And, this is another reason for the choice of black and white. I feel it emphasizes the period much more having grown up with black and white television and as well, being a fan of classic black and white movies from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.

So, whether you’re old enough to remember the "good old days" or just young enough to have heard the stories, take a journey back to the simpler times and places of the Silver Series Editions.
